What Are The Black Streaks On My Roof?
The black streaks that are found on many shingled roofs are a type of airborne bacteria or algae called gloeocapsa magma. These black stains represent large amounts of the bacteria that have accumulated on the surface of the roof. If left untreated, gloeocapsa magma has been known to cause expensive problems revolving around weakened shingle quality and more rapid aging of the roof. These bacteria feed off of the limestone granules found in shingles and may eventually affect the roof’s reflective ability. The weakened and reduced shingle quality can lead to further problems in the form of frequent roof repairs. Ultimately, if left untreated the destructive power of these bacteria can lead to premature roof replacement.
Your Roof Can Be Safely Cleaned Without Causing Damage.
We use a safe, no pressure system for applying cleaning detergents that will effectively kill the bacteria. A pressure washer should NEVER be used to clean a roof! Our chemicals do most of the work, avoiding the need to use pressure which can severely damage shingles. Our roof cleaning method is recommended by the asphalt roofing manufacturers association (ARMA).
We guarantee our roof cleanings for up to two years! If black streaks return to any part of your roof that was treated, at any time during our guarantee period, we will come back and re-treat it at no additional cost to you.
